Wasteland Comics (After Worlds End Publishing) Has Moved to Substack!
Welcome to the new home of our monthly newsletter!
Same Adventure, New Vessel
Hi there, scavs! Sarah here at the helm of the new vessel that’ll be bringing you all the updates about The Wasteland (and beyond!) that you could ever want: Substack!
But, Sarah, why the change? And why now?
Excellent questions! I’ve actually been eyeing Substack for a while, since quite a few writers I really admire have made the transition over to this platform; I just finally felt brave enough to take the leap and switch (even if learning a new platform makes me feel as old as all my gray hairs would imply). The old newsletter was fine, but I got the sense it was getting lost in the dreaded Spam Folder a lot. And, more importantly, it just felt… distant? Disconnected? It didn’t really feel like I was actually interacting with readers and fans—but Substack seems like the perfect remedy for that.
Building Community
See, from what I’ve gathered, there’s a much more social aspect to Substack than a normal newsletter—if you want that vibe. I mean, if you’re content with just getting the usual promised monthly updates sent to your inbox, that won’t change. However, if you do want some more direct engagement, the option is there now. And considering I hope to expand the stories I tell to encompass even more than The Wasteland of GLITCH, I think it would be really neat to have a more direct line to my awesome subscribers. Like, I’m pretty sure I can do things like polls here, and chat threads—even live videos. I’m still learning the ropes, but we can learn together, right?
What to Expect
But again, this isn’t really a change. I’ll still be sending you one newsletter full of updates each month, as promised when you signed up. I don’t want to spam your inbox, after all; you might get sick of me, and that’s the last thing I want! I’ll be aiming to keep up with my prior schedule of the middle of the month (give or take a couple days depending on how busy I am). And these monthly updates—including the early previews and merch deals you’re used to—will still be absolutely 100% free.
That does bring me to a feature I haven’t enabled yet, but plan to at some point soon(ish): paid subscriptions. This would be entirely optional, and would provide extra benefits on top of your free subscription. What kinds of benefits? Well, here’s what I’m thinking so far:
Access to extra prose and poetry writing by yours truly
Access to chats reserved only for paid subscribers
Access to development blogs as I work on future projects, so you can see my [chaotic] worldbuilding and outlining process
I haven’t settled on a price yet, but I’m thinking maybe $5/month. If you think you might be interested in a paid subscription, I’d love to hear what kinds of benefits you’d find appealing! I want to bring you the most value I can (while keeping things sustainable, of course).
So, Let’s Continue This Adventure Together
I’m really excited for what’s ahead, and I can’t wait to keep sharing this journey with you! I think this new platform is going to be really fun for all of us. And it would be great to get even more people on board, so I’d super appreciate you taking a moment to share this Substack with your own friends and networks.
I think that’s about it for now. I’ll get back to the regularly-scheduled newsletter updates next month (and I’ll be able to report on my experience at SFS Art Fest). Until then, I’ll keep learning more about Substack and working on GLITCH and more.
Stay amazing, scavs!
Welcome to Substack! So glad you are here!
Love it!
